Local manufacturers explore advanced engineering at Dudley's innovative workshop

Recently, 22 local manufacturers gathered at the Black Country & Marches Institute of Technology in Dudley, for a workshop designed to introduce them to cutting-edge engineering and manufacturing facilities. It provided participants with valuable access to the resources and services of the Black Country FE Innovation Service.

The workshop included a facility tour and was just one of the numerous activities hosted by the Business Growth West Midlands in Dudley team and offered free support to local SMEs in the Dudley Borough region.

The breakfast was an excellent opportunity for networking and discussion, where attendees met with Andrew Homer, Innovation Consultant, and Catherine Jones, Innovation Technician, who were both eager to share insights into the free services designed to boost productivity and stimulate business growth.

The workshop covered a range of topics, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the available support, with Business Growth Advisers Donna Watkins, Steve Dunn, and Paul Sampson also present to discuss the broader support available to SMEs across the region.

One of the highlights of the morning was a facility tour, allowing attendees to see firsthand how they could benefit from the team's technical expertise and advanced equipment, all at no cost to their businesses. This tour underscored the practical ways local businesses could embrace new ideas and technologies to advance their operations.

Andrew Homer shared his enthusiasm about his role:

"I am looking forward to sharing my experience and extensive knowledge in advanced engineering and manufacturing with local and regional SMEs. The goal of this project is to help businesses develop innovative practices utilising emerging technologies.”

The workshop was not just an educational experience but also a springboard for local manufacturers to innovate and compete in a rapidly evolving industry landscape. For those interested in discovering how advanced technologies can revolutionise their processes, this workshop served as an essential stepping stone.
